The majority of the Kenyans transport themselves by matatu, which is a Toyata HiAce minivan.
The road trip goes from Nakuru city center to Kiambogo via Elementaita where you pass the large Soysambu Estate near Lake Elmenteita. It is established by the late British baron Delamere.
Like all matatus, the driver awaits for departure until his van is full. That can take hours to wait before your matatu leaves the city.
Only the trajectory from Nakuru to Elementaita is a asphalt road that was in perfect condition in 2019. It is now full of put holes. The remaining trajectory is a sand road with rocks and put holes everywhere. Your 'wild' safari experience begins there and ends next to an open place in Kiambogo where the matatu stops to pick up passengers for Nakuru.
However, you won't see that 'wild' in my video as the scenes are too shaky. Even the length of the video is limited. 16 minutes instead a full hour.
When there is bad weather, meaning heavy rain turning the sand road into a mud river so that the matatu gets stuck in the mud, don't get surprised when the driver says that you have to continue your journey on foot.
It has happened to us but one time.
